Project LoVe
Lepidoptera of Venezuela
The project
This site presents the most updated information on the species of Lepidoptera present in Venezuela. In the first phase we have added the records for which we have bibliographic support, later we will add collection records and observations.
The higher classification used may not reflect the latest trends since we have concentrated on the recording of species and subspecies, however we have tried to use the most updated and most consensual ones.
Each taxon page has a "Feedback" button that you can use to send your comments.
Current Status
The inventory of recorded species is not complete and is under constant revision. We strive to present you with the most complete and up-to-date information possible. However, if you have comments, or want to draw attention to a specific butterfly you can do so by clicking on the "Feedback" button that is present on all the taxa pages, the system will automatically record the page from which the comment originated, so it is important that you make your annotations on the taxon you are interested in.
Latest news
This past June, two papers appeared in the journal "Anartia" dealing with Venezuelan Satyrini butterflies. In one, a new subspecies of Oxeoschistus puerta was described from the Sierra de Perijá region in western Venezuela.
The second papers deals with Stephenympha pauliana (gen. nov. and sp. nov.) and Rudyphthimoides iseai (gen. nov. and sp. nov.). Other previously described species of Satyrine butterflies are transferred to these newly described genera.
